Jersey Mike’s Subs, the iconic fast-casual brand known for its fresh sliced, fresh grilled subs and deeply rooted community spirit, has announced a major leadership transition. Restaurant industry veteran Charlie Morrison will take the reins as Chief Executive Officer, effective April 28th, 2025.

Morrison brings more than 30 years of high-level franchising and global growth expertise to the brand. A brand known not only for its quality products but also for its heart-led mission. He succeeds Peter Cancro, the visionary who purchased the original Jersey Mike’s store at just 17 years old. From that moment, he built it into one of the most beloved brands in America over the past 50 years.

Cancro will remain an influential force in the company, continuing as Chairman of the Board and maintaining an ownership stake.

A Legacy of Subs, Service, and Heart

Peter Cancro’s story is one that has inspired millions across generations. His relentless dedication to community, quality, and kindness has not only fueled Jersey Mike’s explosive growth but also defined its core values.

Under Cancro’s leadership, Jersey Mike’s became a beacon for giving back, launching initiatives such as its heartwarming partnership with Best Buddies International to raise funds and awareness for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Through efforts like the “Month of Giving,” Jersey Mike’s has raised tens of millions of dollars for countless causes. In turn, setting the standard for what it means to be a brand with purpose.

“Peter’s passion has shaped every store, inspired every owner, and earned the loyalty of millions of customers nationwide,” said Nigel Travis, Lead Director of Jersey Mike’s Board of Directors and former CEO of Dunkin’ Brands.

Cancro, with characteristic humility and optimism, expressed full confidence in Morrison: “In Charlie, we have found the ideal next CEO for Jersey Mike’s, and I look forward to him propelling our business even further…he also shares our values and commitment to giving to the communities we serve.”

Building on Success: A New Era of Growth

Charlie Morrison’s impressive track record signals a thrilling new chapter for Jersey Mike’s. As former Chairman and CEO of Wingstop, Morrison was the driving force behind its transformation from a regional chain of fewer than 500 units to an international success with over 2,000 locations. A recent press release reported that they also had one of the most successful IPOs in restaurant history. Most recently, at Salad and Go, he spearheaded a remarkable seven-fold increase in store count.

Morrison’s blend of operational expertise, strategic vision, and passion for brand culture makes him uniquely suited to continue Jersey Mike’s extraordinary story.

“Jersey Mike’s is a unique brand with a rich history, loyal customer base and authentic culture which Peter and his talented team have cultivated over the past five decades,” Morrison said. “I am honored to be entrusted with continuing this legacy.”

His focus will include accelerating growth in both domestic and international markets, strengthening technological innovations, and, above all, preserving the authentic Jersey Mike’s experience customers love.

This next stage of expansion is already in motion. In 2024, Jersey Mike’s announced a landmark partnership with Blackstone. This collaboration is designed to supercharge the company’s global footprint while continuing to invest heavily in technology and digital advancements.

“With a wealth of experience in scaling leading franchise brands, Charlie is the ideal leader to build on Peter’s extraordinary foundation and take Jersey Mike’s into its next era of growth,” said Joe Baratta, Global Head of Private Equity Strategies at Blackstone.

As Jersey Mike’s embarks on this exciting new chapter, the spirit that Peter Cancro instilled, one of generosity, quality, and community, remains firmly at the heart of the brand. With Charlie Morrison at the helm, Jersey Mike’s is poised to honor its remarkable past while boldly shaping a future filled with even greater opportunity, connection, and purpose.
