Central Bark Launches Puppy Hour™ to Support Socialization and Whole Dog Care

Central Bark® has launched Puppy Hour™, a free weekly socialization event for puppies aged 8 to 16 weeks, providing a safe and structured environment that supports their development and meets the needs of dog parents.

Central Bark®, a national dog care franchise introduced Puppy Hour™ in January of this year. This system-wide initiative is designed to provide young puppies with crucial socialization experiences during a formative stage in their development. Now, nine months later, the program is flourishing, offering pet parents a safe and nurturing environment for their puppies between the ages of 8 and 16 weeks to interact, play, and thrive.

“At Central Bark, we pride ourselves on the satisfaction of our guests and their dogs,” said Bob Crawford, CEO of Central Bark. “We knew that Puppy Hour would fill an industry-wide gap in puppy socialization opportunities, and the results of the past nine months have illustrated that clearly. As we grow this program and others, we will continue to put our communities first and find exceptional ways to support whole dog care and their pet parents.”

A Safe and Engaging Space for Puppies

Puppy Hour was crafted to address concerns many dog parents face about socializing their puppies in public spaces like dog parks. Public areas, while fun for many dogs, can expose puppies to unpredictable encounters. At Central Bark, pet parents can rest easy knowing their pups will interact only with similarly aged, vaccinated dogs in a controlled, supervised setting. Each play session is overseen by an experienced enrichment specialist, ensuring that puppies have a safe and fun environment to explore and grow.

Since its launch, 36 Central Bark locations nationwide have implemented weekly Puppy Hour events. The program has already welcomed over 700 puppies, many of whom have transitioned into regular daycare customers as they age out of the socialization window. This seamless continuity in care exemplifies the lasting impact of the program on both puppies and their families.

“It has been incredible to see the reception of our Puppy Hour program so far,” said Tim Weiderhoft, Ed.D., CFE, COO of Central Bark.

“This event acts as a powerful way to show pet parents in the communities we serve that Central Bark’s first priority is anticipating their needs and providing their puppies with the right care for this influential time in their development. We look forward to continuing to grow this program and its impact.”

One of the most exciting aspects of Puppy Hour is that it’s free and open to all puppies aged 8 to 16 weeks. Parents simply need to pre-register and provide proof of up-to-date vaccinations for Bordetella and DHPP. Puppy Hour offers a safe, no-cost solution for new dog owners eager to give their pets the best start in life.

Holistic Dog Care with a Community Focus

Puppy Hour aligns with Central Bark’s commitment to providing comprehensive care that supports both the physical and emotional well-being of dogs. For more than 20 years, Central Bark has embraced a “whole dog care” approach that goes beyond traditional day care services. By incorporating canine behavioral science into their programs, they offer a unique blend of enrichment activities that include exercise, play, learning, and rest. Their offerings extend to dog boarding, grooming, training, and even a boutique retail market, making them a one-stop shop for pet parents looking to support their dogs’ health and happiness.

Central Bark reports each facility boasts indoor and outdoor areas, allowing dogs to explore and engage their senses safely. Enrichment add-ons provide dogs with interactive toys, puzzles, and games that stimulate their minds and instincts.

    Petcare Industry Evolution

The pet care industry is growing year after year and becoming more competitive. Brands that embrace the entire journey of a dog’s life and the experience of a pet parent will grow their local packs of wagging tails. A focus of this year has been technology and focusing on the first year of a dog’s journey in life.

For example, in recent Chise News articles, we spoke about Camp Bow Wow introducing Pawsitive Start Jr. to help puppies thrive. This program focuses on puppies from four months to one year of age. From a tech side, we can look to Dogtopia, which launched a Virtual World to Ease Dogs’ Journey Into Daycare. Central Bark nicely rounds out this approach by embracing the two-month to four-month age range.
