In a dynamic move to enhance its portfolio and fuel continued growth, Blo Blow Dry Bar has announced the acquisition of LashBar™, a California-based lash extension franchise. Known for its innovative patented lash systems and high-quality products, LashBar adds a new dimension to Blo’s franchise offerings, opening fresh opportunities for entrepreneurs looking to break into the beauty industry.
The Rise of LashBar
Founded in 2017 by husband-and-wife duo Joseph and Lina Mai, LashBar was born out of Lina’s passion for lash extensions. After nearly two decades as a hair stylist, Lina discovered her love for lash extensions while preparing for their wedding. The couple had originally considered opening a hair salon, but the untapped potential of lash services in San Diego inspired them to launch their first LashBar location.
Joseph focused on streamlining operations and perfecting the customer experience, which quickly propelled the brand’s popularity. Just a year later, they expanded into franchising. Since 2018, LashBar has grown to 13 locations, with several more in the pipeline. “With our franchise opportunity, we wanted to give entrepreneurs the platform to fulfill their dreams of running a business that didn’t compromise their creativity,” shared Joseph. “Blo’s support will only help us continue growing.”
A Strategic Acquisition for Blo Blow Dry Bar
For Blo Blow Dry Bar, the acquisition of LashBar builds on the momentum of their 15 years of success. Blo, which pioneered the “no cuts, no color” blow dry bar concept in 2007, has since grown to over 150 locations across the U.S. and Canada, becoming one of the world’s largest blow dry bar franchises. The company has evolved to offer additional beauty services, including makeup applications and retail products, all designed to elevate the customer experience.
With the purchase of LashBar, Blo continues to expand its offerings beyond hair styling. This acquisition follows Blo’s 2022 purchase of MYNC Beauty Inc., a Canadian beauty brand, and the 2023 launch of LashKind, their U.S. brand lash extension franchise. Vanessa Yakobson, CEO of Blo Blow Dry Bar, emphasized the synergy between the brands, stating, “Joseph and Lina have built a powerful brand with a carefully crafted service and business model. We knew that our systems, resources and expertise would marry nicely with the LashBar platform, leading to growth in unit economics and unit count.”
The Future of LashBar as Part of LashKind
As part of the acquisition, LashBar will merge with LashKind, Blo’s lash-focused brand, and rebrand its locations as “LashKind – A Lash Bar.” LashKind’s private label products will soon be stocked in LashBar locations, integrating the best of both franchises. This merger strengthens Blo’s position as a platform company, offering franchisees even more paths to entrepreneurial success within the booming beauty sector.
With Blo’s extensive resources and proven franchise model, the future looks bright for LashBar, now primed for accelerated growth in unit count and unit economics. The combined expertise of the Mai family and Blo’s leadership will provide franchisees with the tools they need to thrive. Blo’s acquisition of LashBar represents not only a strategic business move but also an exciting opportunity for beauty entrepreneurs.
