Sport Clips Haircuts has kicked off its annual “Help A Hero” campaign, aiming to raise $1.5 million by November 16th to support the VFW’s “Sport Clips Help A Hero Scholarship” program. This effort, which runs through Veterans Day, seeks to assist veterans and service members in transitioning from military to civilian careers by funding their educational goals.
The program, founded in 2013, has grown to become the largest scholarship initiative of its kind, awarding over 3,000 scholarships totaling nearly $14 million to veterans. Spearheaded by Sport Clips Founder and Air Force veteran Gordon Logan, the campaign highlights the brand’s commitment to giving back to the military community. “Our stylists and clients are at the heart of this initiative with eighty percent of our annual donations coming from our generous clients,” Logan emphasized. “It’s an honor to support those who have served our country.”
How to Donate and Support
From now until Veterans Day, clients can contribute to the “Help A Hero” campaign at checkout during a visit to any Sport Clips location. Donations can also be made online or via a convenient text-to-donate option by texting “HEROVFW” to 53555. Additionally, on November 11th, participating Sport Clips locations will donate $2 for every paid haircut service, with many stores offering free haircuts to veterans and active-duty military members.
VFW National Commander Al Lipphardt stressed the importance of this campaign, noting the challenges veterans face when adjusting to civilian life, including finding a purposeful career. “Surveys show the major challenges for veterans transitioning out of their military careers are finding a job, parting ways with their friends in the military, and finding a purposeful career. One in five veterans says a lack of funds has prevented them from pursuing their educational goals,” said Lipphardt. “So, getting a haircut and making a donation is a simple but powerful way to help veterans succeed.”
Scholarships Up to $5,000 Per Semester
The Sport Clips Help A Hero Scholarship program provides up to $5,000 per semester to eligible veterans, specifically those with a rank of E-5 or below. These scholarships can be used to cover tuition and other educational expenses, with funds sent directly to the school of the veteran’s choice. This program ensures that 100 percent of all donations go toward helping veterans achieve their academic and career goals.
By participating in this year’s “Help A Hero” campaign, clients at Sport Clips have the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of those who have served our nation. Whether through a simple donation at checkout or by spreading the word, each contribution helps to ease the financial burden faced by veterans striving to achieve their educational goals.
